On Sunday, March 28, nine volunteers met in our usual spot under the bridge in downtown Austin with hygiene bags, water, underwear, blankets, books and other assorted items to serve 160 clients. We saw a lot of new faces this month, along with plenty of familiar faces. As per request, we added underwear and bras to our offerings this month.
This month, we were also able to offer a hot meal of breakfast tacos thanks to Better Together. Kristen Harris cooked all the food and Linda Jackson joined us to serve it. The Taco Table was busy the entire time we were there and all the food was served by the end. It was very much appreciated by our clients and we will offer this regularly from now on. Thank you, Better Together!
Foundation Beyond Belief has given us a generous and substantial grant to help our clients recover from the winter storm in February. We have been able to purchase tents and sleeping bags and also stock up on our regular monthly giveaway items. But, we are also very excited to be able to purchase 500 daily bus passes for our clients! The bus passes are an item that is constantly requested, so it is wonderful to be able to fulfill those requests now. Thank you so much Foundation Beyond Belief!
We’d also like to give a shout out to Sherrie and Glyn Haynie and the Jones Family for making kits and switching out some expired products for us! We love our volunteers and they really make our whole operation run so smoothly!
