In the wake of the global pandemic and national emergency due to COVID-19, Austin Humanists at Work is taking extra precautions to protect the health the safety of the individuals we serve and our volunteers.
The board of directors has decided to cancel the March 22nd ATXHAW Giveaway entirely. If you were planning to attend, please stay home, practice social distancing, and follow CDC guidelines regarding handwashing and other measures that will help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Based on local and nationwide recommendations, we do not want to promote more than 10 people congregating in one place, including our clients. We had intended to send a limited number of volunteers with assembled bags of our core items to handout. However, at this time the risk is too great. We need to help prevent the spread of coronavirus by staying home. Please do not come to the March giveaway to volunteer or drop off items. We can arrange pickup of any items you’d like to donate to clients via our nonprofit.
We will continue to post updates on our website and Facebook page as conditions evolve, prioritizing the safety and health of everyone in our community. We welcome your feedback and support as we and others in Austin navigate unprecedented circumstances. We will provide updates regarding future giveaways and events as we gain more information.
We hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and keep washing those hands!
Given the current situation if we’d like to make a financial donation would it be more helpful to another organization right now (maybe central texas food bank)? Wanting to help, but not sure what will be the most best way to do it.
Thanks!
Thank you for the wonderful question. Yes, currently, until our org can get a handle on where our services are most valuable, please
Give to Central Texas Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Glimmer Austin, Keep Austin Fed, and/ SAFE or Caritas. Those would be our recommended places to donate.
