Our giveaways are heating up and we are preparing for another great event in just a week and a half. Join us July 21 at 8:40 a.m. for setup with the line opening at 9 a.m. We will have bins full of items for our clients — but only with your help!
This month we are totally out of these items:
- First aid kits
- Lip balm
- Sunscreen
- Nail clippers
- Condoms
First aid kits, lip balm and sunscreen can be crucial for our clients to stay healthy during the summer months.
We also need these items:
- Baby wipes
- Cotton balls
- Q-tips
- Floss picks
- Light & regular tampons, pantiliners, super/overnight pads
- Snack, sandwich, quart zip-top bags
- Women’s underwear
- Men’s underwear
- Combs/brushes/hair picks
- Emergency blankets
- Shampoo
- Insect repellent
- Conditioner
- Notepads
- Pens
We are very fortunate the be partnering with a major Austin-area employer which will be providing more than 100 volunteers to build first aid kits and feminine hygiene kits for our giveaways. Some items on our list will be used for this effort, and supplies from the event are expected to last for 2-3 years. If you can, please use our Amazon wishlist to send items, or monetarily donate to our nonprofit using Facebook, PayPal, or even mailing a check. We use the funds directly to buy supplies for our friends and neighbors experiencing homelessness and limited means. In June and July, we are holding a bra drive to support our clients who need them. We hope to collect at least 200 bras in all shapes and sizes for our clients. We accept donations at PakMail Austin Metric, by mail, or pickup by request. Like most items we accept, sports bras are also on our Amazon wishlist.
We hosted our first-ever volunteer appreciation meetup on Sunday, June 23 and it was a success! So much so that we didn’t take any photos. Thanks to all who came out. We love welcoming and visiting with volunteers and are planning the next event. Please contact us if you have an idea or would like to join us next time. Do you knit, crochet, or use yarn to make things? Coming up on July 18 is the Gettin’ Knotty Guild meetup! Our clients love getting handmade items from this crafting group that makes knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, and washcloths for our monthly giveaways.
We host giveaways typically on the third Sunday of each month under the I-35 bridge across from the Austin Police Department building. See our volunteer page if it’s your first time joining us. And if you can’t make it on July 21st, here are the rest of the dates we’re holding giveaways this year.
