Summer is here, and that can usually mean a dip in volunteers as families enjoy vacations and weekend getaways. Donations can tend to dwindle as well, though we serve a consistent number of clients each month during the summer giveaways. We are so thankful to everyone who sweats it out on Sunday mornings with us during the summer! Our next giveaway is June 16, 2019. RSVP here.

- Body wipes
- Sunscreen
- Combs/brushes/hair picks
- Emergency blankets
- Shampoo
- Men’s underwear
- Dental floss/floss picks/mouthwash
- Conditioner
- Notepads
- Light & super plus tampons

First aid kits, lip balm and sunscreen can be crucial for our clients to stay healthy during the summer months, as well as bug spray. But earlier this month we were able to stock up on bug spray with a generous coupon from H-E-B. We are so thankful to H-E-B for working with us to get 700 units purchased using donations from supporters. This is truly our valued nonprofit status in action: being able to use funds we have from generous donors to purchase much-needed items in bulk at a discounted rate.
In June and July, we are holding a bra drive to support our clients who need them. We hope to collect at least 200 bras in all shapes and sizes for our clients. We accept donations at PakMail Austin Metric, by mail, or pickup by request. Like most items we accept, sports bras are also on our Amazon wishlist.
Coming up this month we are hosting our first-ever volunteer appreciation meetup on Sunday, June 23 at 3 p.m.! Watch for details on our Facebook page, or reach out to communications@austinhumanistsatwork.org for information.
Also coming up in June are Gettin’ Knotty Guild meetups all around town. This is a crafting guild that makes knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, and washcloths for our monthly giveaways. It is never too soon to start making hats for the winter. Pick up that summer craft and get involved.
We host giveaways typically on the third Sunday of each month under the I-35 bridge across from the Austin Police Department building. See our volunteer page if it’s your first time joining us. And if you can’t make it on June 16th, here are the rest of the dates we’re holding giveaways this year.
