Hello everyone!
It’s time for the first giveaway of 2019! If you’re thinking that it’s been an extra long time since the December giveaway, you’d be right. We rescheduled this month’s giveaway to the 4th Sunday in January due to the 3M Half Marathon. The February giveaway has also been rescheduled to the 4th Sunday (February 24th) due to the Austin Marathon. In March, we’ll be back to our usual 3rd weekend of each month schedule. Good luck to all the half- and full- marathon runners!
The ATXHAW 2018-2019 Warmth Drive is still going strong. We’ve gotten many wonderful donations of cold and wet weather gear, but we still need your support! Over 1,000 of our fellow Austinites are sleeping unsheltered on any given night. Unsheltered can mean anything from sleeping in a car to sleeping under a bridge. Some even take refuge in public restrooms simply to survive the bitter cold. Please consider donating a coat, sweatshirt, thermal, or sleeping bag to help a fellow human. A full list of warmth drive items can be found on our What Do We Need? page.
While you’re there, check out the other items that we need for this Sunday’s giveaway. We’re completely out of heat packs, lip balm, nail clippers, and men’s underwear.
Volunteers Needed!
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church needs volunteers to help on nights when the Cold Weather Shelter system is activated. The Cold Weather Shelter system is a network of churches and community volunteers that provide extra shelter space on nights where the temperature falls below freezing. Volunteers are needed to prepare dinner, monitor showers, clean up the kitchen, spend overnight, and do morning cleanup. Knit or Crochet with ATXHAW
Whether you’re just getting started or already a seasoned crafter, ATXHAW’s Gettin’ Knotty group has a project for you! Cotton washcloths are a great way to practice knit or crochet stitches. For those that like to experiment with different patterns, try a hat or scarf! All items are given directly to fellow humans at our giveaways.
