First volunteers started showing up around 8:15 this morning. There’s a lot to set up before the line is opened to the people we serve each giveaway. Even though school has started for all of Austin and fall is right around the corner, Summer hasn’t let go yet. Everyone was sweating to the oldies this mid-September, Sunday morning. However, nothing stops Austin Humanists at Work volunteers. We have had our giveaways through rain or shine, hot or cold, and not a single giveaway has been canceled in the history of our organization.
Thirty volunteers served 175 people at the giveaway today. We are extremely thankful for all who help make our giveaways happen, volunteers and donors alike.
It has been a hard month for many since hurricane Harvey hit. An influx of hurricane evacuees came to Austin and were in our line today. We were happy to give relief for those who needed it. It’s going to be a long recovery process and winter is right around the corner. In it’s third year, our Warmth Drive focuses on collecting all things to Keep Austin Warm this coming winter. Each year we ask for hand warmers, new/ gently used warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves, shoes, and clothes in clean condition. CLICK HERE to check out all we are looking for and how you can help.
Everyone at Austin Humanist at Work can’t thank everyone enough for all your support over the years. The biggest support you have given us is the amazing word of mouth our organization depends on to keep going. Please continue to share our website, Facebook, and Twitter, Next Door, your community bulletin boards, and forums. We truly appreciate you spreading the word, thank you.
See you at the next giveaway, October 15, 2017.
