There are only a few short days until the February giveaway!
We have a lot of items on the green light list this month – things that we have some of, but not enough for a full giveaway. The only things that we are completely out of are: hand sanitizer, nail clippers, and men’s underwear. Other items that we could use more of are: razors, hand warmers, condoms, and women’s underwear. To see the full list of what we do and don’t need this month, please click here.
If you’re in the Austin area and would like us to pick up your donation, we’ve got you covered! We have volunteers from Kyle to Georgetown (and everywhere in between) that would be happy to swing by. Please email email@example.com, and our donations coordinator will put you in touch with the nearest volunteer.
Not in the Austin area? Prefer to purchase your donation? Not a problem. Visit our Amazon wish list and your donation will be sent directly to us. If you would like to mail us a donation, our mailing address is:
Austin Humanists at Work
11900 Metric Blvd. #J-172
Austin, TX 78758
(Please note: This is a mailbox store. They cannot accept walk-in donations on our behalf.)
And, as always, you can drop off your donation at the giveaway. Announcements and set up begin at 8:40 AM, the line opens at 9, and we wrap up around 10 AM. Bonus: If you come to the giveaway, you can come have breakfast with us afterwards!
Love to read? So do the people that we serve!
Are your bookshelves stuffed full? Is your nightstand or coffee table overflowing? Clean them out for a good cause!
This month, ATXHAW is running our first ever Love to Read Book Drive. We are looking for all kinds of books (paperbacks preferred), journals, notebooks, magazines, puzzle books (crosswords, sudoku, etc.), pens, and bookmarks.
Please feel free to share the image to the left. Email it to friends and family, or make a post on Facebook or Twitter. Heck, get the whole neighborhood involved! Share it on your neighborhood listserv or NextDoor.
Last call for the ATXHAW Warmth Drive!
Since it’s nearly spring here in central Texas, we are wrapping up our 2016-2017 Warmth Drive. We’ve had a wonderful response this year. Let’s go out with a bang and keep even more Austin residents warm! We’re collecting warm clothing, such as sweats, thermals, jackets, and coats. Accessories are welcome as well! Donate your hats, scarves, gloves, thick socks, and sleeping bags too.
If you’d like to spread the word, here are some printable flyers. They are perfect to post at local businesses or neighborhood bulletin boards. PDFs are easy to attach to emails too!
Knit or crochet for another human
Speaking of the Warmth Drive… we could use those mittens! If you know how to make mittens (without swallowing yarn), come to the ATXHAW Gettin’ Knotty meetup! Our group creates mittens, scarves, hats, washcloths, and more! Don’t know how to knit or crochet? That’s okay! We’ll be happy to help you learn.
The GK group will meet next Thursday, February 16, from 7 to 10 PM in the cafe area of Barnes & Noble (Arboretum location). Donation drop offs are also accepted at the Gettin’ Knotty meetup.
Thank you for reading! Happy Valentine’s Day! Have a wonderful week. See you on the 19th!
