Hi everyone! We are already less than 2 weeks away from the October giveaway. As you read in the September giveaway wrap-up, we were able to serve 168 people last month. We are so happy that we were able to assist so many members of our community, but it definitely put a dent in our inventory! We are completely out of a lot of things, including razors, women’s underwear, nail clippers, emergency blankets, and lip balm. We are also low (but not completely out of) many items as well. To see the full list of what we could use the most, please click here. Don’t forget – when you check out our Amazon wish list, sort it by priority. High priority = Green light, Medium priority = Yellow light, and Low priority = Red light.
If you’re in the Austin area and would like us to pick up your donation, please email donations@austinhumanistsatwork.org. Our donations coordinator will put you in touch with the closest volunteer, and you can make pick up arrangements that work with your schedule.

piecesThis year has really flown by! We can hardly believe that we’ve been Austin Humanists at Work for 6 months. To celebrate our half birthday, we’re collecting a record-breaking *5000* items! How can you help us get there? Donate, of course, but also spread the word about ATXHAW! Share our posts on Facebook, re-tweet our posts on Twitter, and snap a pic when you’re out shopping for the giveaway & tag us on Instagram. Get your Girl Scout or Boy Scout troop to hold a collection drive, and put out a bin at work. Email your friends & family, and tell your neighbors about us on NextDoor. There are so many ways to get involved & make a difference to those in need in our community.

We’ve also been busy with a very special project – getting our 501(c)(3) designation! What does that mean? It means that we will be a tax-exempt nonprofit organization under federal tax laws, and when we get that designation, your donations will be tax-deductible. We’re still wrapping up a few things, but we’d like to be ready to submit our application to the IRS as soon as we can. But we need your help to get there. We are raising funds for the $400+ application fee. If you’d like to help, please click here to donate. For more info and some Q & A, click here.

There hasn’t been a vampire sighting at a Gettin’ Knotty meeting, but you never know… If your vampire slaying skills are sharp, but your knitting skills aren’t, come to the Gettin’ Knotty monthly meeting on October 13. We meet in the cafe area of Barnes & Noble in the Arboretum from 7 – 10 PM. BYOG (Bring your own garlic).
