Hi everyone! As you all know, the last few days have been pretty exciting for us – not only did we announce our new name, but we also passed 1,000 Likes on our Facebook page! The love & support we have received has been just wonderful.
We are also very excited for our first giveaway as Austin Humanists at Work. Last month, we were able to get basic living items into the hands of 146 people. We are so glad that we were able to assist that many people. However, that amount of people is on the higher end of normal for us, and it really put a dent in our supplies!
As you can see on our brand spankin’ new What Do We Need? page, the traffic light shopping guide is now a permanent fixture! It will be updated at least weekly with what we could use the most. And, of course, the Item of the Month will be highlighted in purple! April’s Item of the Month is deodorant. We are completely out! If you’d like to contribute some, check out our Amazon Wish List – your donation will be shipped straight to us! If you prefer to purchase in person, we recommend Dollar Tree to get the best bang for your buck (Dollar Tree is great for hand sanitizer too – 3/$1!). As always, we will be happy to pick up your donation. We have volunteers all around the Austin metro area! Please email donations@austinhumanistsatwork.org.
*Helpful hint on the Amazon Wish List: If you click Filter & Sort, then Priority, the list will match the traffic light guide: High Priority = Green Light, Medium Priority = Yellow Light, and Low Priority = Red Light.
We don’t want you to go to the dark side… but we do want you to go to the next Gettin’ Knotty meeting!
If you like to knit or crochet – or are interested in learning – join us at Barnes & Noble in the Arboretum next Thursday, April 14. We grab a few tables in the cafe & crack ourselves up from 7 – 10 PM.
Do you have any plans tomorrow (April 9)? The Austin Furniture Bank is looking for volunteers to help load & deliver furniture to 22 recently housed veterans & their families tomorrow. Here’s the info from their Facebook page:
First opportunity: In the morning we’re asking for 6 volunteers for 1 to 2 hours starting at 9am. Meet at our warehouse in Georgetown to help organize orders and load truck.
Second opportunity: All deliveries are going to one location in South Austin (close to S. 1st & Oltorf). We are asking for 6 volunteers to help unload truck and assist in moving furniture into clients apartments (several are disabled vets). We will be meeting at that location between noon and 1pm.
Water, Gatorade and Snacks will be provided. If interested please contact Jaclyn at afb2volunteer@gmail.com.
Thanks for reading! We hope you have a wonderful weekend. See you on the 17th!
