Hello everyone! We are already just a week away from our February giveaway. How time flies!
Call For Volunteers!
The generous congregation at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church opens their doors to anyone needing shelter when the temperatures fall below freezing. They are in search of volunteers to serve dinner & stay overnight. If you are able to help, please contact Ed Kopas at edwardkopas@yahoo.com or 512-659-9880.
Are you a knitter or crocheter? Have you been wondering what to do now that the holiday craft rush is over? Make a washcloth (or two)! The ATXAHH Gettin’ Knotty group is looking for crafters to knit & crochet items to be given out at our giveaways. We’ll be handing out hats & scarves this month, and we hand out washcloths all year round.
If you’d like to learn to knit or crochet, come join the Gettin’ Knotty group at their monthly meet up this Thursday, February 18! We meet in the cafe area of Barnes & Noble in the Arboretum from 7-10 PM.
If you’re wondering what we need the most this month, here’s our handy traffic light shopping guide.
Red Light (we don’t need these items right now):
Soap/body wash
Feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons, pantiliners)
Hair elastics
Women’s underwear
Combs/brushes
Yellow Light (we have some of these items, but could probably use a few more):
Shampoo
Women’s socks
Dental products (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss/floss picks)
Hand warmers
Razors
First aid kits
Toilet paper
Green Light (we really need these items!):
Emergency blankets
Chapstick
Kleenex
Nail clippers
Deodorant
Notepads & pens
Hand sanitizer
Body wipes
Men’s socks
Men’s underwear – our February Item of the Month!
Last call for the ATXAHH Warmth Drive! We will be accepting warm & cozy clothing until the end of the month. We’ve been having fairly mild temperatures recently, but here in Texas, that can change quickly! We accept coats, sweats, thermals, hats, scarves, gloves, and thick socks. A sleeping bag or sleeping mat can also make a huge difference when you’re facing sleeping on the ground.
A note about clothing donations: We have noticed that certain types of clothing, specifically business & dressier clothes, aren’t getting taken at our giveaways very often. We are now asking that those types of clothing be donated to Dress For Success Austin or Lisa’s Hope Chest.
If you have a donation that you’d like for us to pick up, please email atxahhdonations@gmail.com. We have volunteers all over the Austin area that will be happy to work with your schedule.
If you’re not in the Austin area, or prefer to order your donation online, please visit our Amazon wish list. Click Filter & Sort, you can sort our list by priority, which will match the traffic light guide: High Priority = Green Light, Medium Priority = Yellow Light, and Low Priority = Red Light.
We hope you have a wonderful week. See you next Sunday!
