Our next giveaway is Sunday, September 21st*. Just three weeks for us to fill the bins! We have plenty of feminine hygiene products, razors and toothbrushes. In addition to our regular needs, we’re pretty low on lip balm, hand sanitizer (bottles or wipes), tissue packs and 2-ply toilet paper rolls. Target has some good deals in their travel section, especially first aid kits and lotion. If you find another store with great deals, let us know and we’ll spread the word.
We’re coming into the final stretch for our 50 States Challenge. Several donations have come from the same handful of states but we haven’t added any new colors to the map in a while. Spread the word to your friends and family. Let’s see if we can light up the map before September 30th.

*If you want to be involved in the giveaway, please plan to show up around 8:50am. We’ll start with some announcements, welcome new volunteers, set up, then open the line at 9:00am. If you get there after 9:00am, you may feel like you’re just standing around…and you probably will be. That’s not because you’re not needed; it’s because the party already started and only so many people can work behind the line, handing out items. Often, people who arrive after 9:00am will be told “just stand here” to make sure that no one accidentally wanders behind our distribution line. It may not feel like you’re doing much but it’s a huge help to the volunteers working the line to know you’ve got their backs, literally. Another thing volunteers can do is to walk along the giveaway line and just talk with people who are waiting their turn. You may not realize how much they appreciate simple conversation when, more often than not, people ignore them. It’s a simple way to make a big difference in someone’s day.
