Hello all! Our next giveaway is just days away: Sunday, June 22nd, at 9am. We’ll be in the same place as always: under the overpass at I-35 and 8th Street, in the NW corner (closest to APD headquarters). If you’re bringing items, please drop them off at the pick up truck where 2 volunteers will log the items before they’re distributed. Just look for the orange cone and “donations” sign.
Several volunteers plan to gather at Central Market North Lamar (38th & Lamar) after the giveaway. It’s a great way to get to know each other. Please make plans to join us on the cafe patio.
Big thanks to Jo Kathryn Quinn, Executive Director at Caritas of Austin. Last week, we kicked off our Youth Events & Activities meetings with a tour for 8 of our youth volunteers and 5 chaperones. She shared a wealth of information with us, from Austin’s status as a safe haven for refugees to how many people are served by Caritas each year (20,000!). The tour ended with a Musical Mac ‘n Cheese game that helped the kids understand just what it means to be one of the 25% of Texas children who live at/below the poverty line. It was a terrific start to the quarterly activities planned exclusively for our youth volunteers. We’re fortunate to live in a city that supports our desire to foster our youth volunteers’ compassion.
Speaking of our youth volunteers, this week ATXAHH received a $500 grant, courtesy of the Foundation Beyond Belief/Beyond Belief Network. The funds will support our Youth Events & Activities group as well as our Gettin’ Knotty knitting guild. Thanks, FBB/BBN!
